Web Hosting?

If I subscribe to Linux web hosting products can I run them on my PC. I run Windows at home?

Cheers

Web Hosting?

whether your server is linux or windows based makes no difference to you as a user. You will use the same methods to build your site in the same way and upload it with an ftp in the same way.

It only refers to the os run on the servers themselves... fyi google only use linux on their servers but u use them from your windows machine for searching, gmail etc right?

Web Hosting?

Depends on what products specifically. If you%26#039;re talking about development tools or certain hosting platforms, some have a Windows version and some do not. If you%26#039;re just talking about web services that are delivered from a Linux host, then your platform is irrelevant.

Other Replys:what about it ?

Other Replys:Linux software runs on Linux, Windows on Windows, although there are ways to run some Windows apps on Linux.

Other Replys:it depends on the cpu%26#039;s capability and speed, the capacity of a hard disk

Other Replys:If your web host runs Linux that is nothing to do with what is on your PC at home. On your home PC you run whatever web design tools you want. The only essential program is an FTP package to allow you to send your completed pages to your hosting. I have several websites which all run on Linux hosts. It%26#039;s actually preferred as it%26#039;s easier to run MySQL databases, PHP scripts and the like. Many are actually supplied by your host. Free.

Windows hosted sites usually require ASP scripting, Front Page extensions and very different database applications. Linux web hosts are in the majority, by far.

Linux usually runs Apache server, PHP scripting and MySQL server which you can also add to your Windows PC for testing your websites.

Other Replys:I understand your concern and you are doing the right thing. There is no need of subscribing into something only to discover that you are fighting with compatibility issues.

Now a common misconception is that if you are running a windows operating system then your hosting package should also be the same, the same misconception applies to Linux.

This is not true. Your operating system should not dictate what hosting package you subscribe to unless if and only if you are looking for a particular product that is only specifically offered by that hosting service.

Let your decision be guided by what benefits and features you will want to have on your site rather than what operating system you are using.
