Building a Website that won't cost the earth...best programme to go with?

Hi Guys!

Wonder if you can help at all...I want to set up my own website for business purposes but have to admit I%26#039;m not web-build savvy %26amp; haven%26#039;t got loads of dosh either so can%26#039;t afford to go with a company that will do it all for me.

Do you know of any good programmes that would be the best for me at the moment plus going about getting an affordable web hosting server.

I design %26amp; produce my own range of pet beds %26amp; would really like to have my own site in which to trade from rather than just going through ebay.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..Thanks very much.

Okay, there is a LOT to consider when building a website for a business online. It%26#039;s not as easy as jsut creating the website.

Some things to consider:

1) Where you are going to host your website.

This can be a variety of costs, keeping it to the low end for you anywhere from $20/yr to $75/yr

2) You want to sell your product online through your website then you%26#039;ll need to setup credit card processing.

a) This will mean security hosting may do this for you as little as $120/year - or you can buy a license from Verisign for $400/year

b) This also means a database on the server - to track sales / progress / credit card transactions (usually one is available for free - but you may have to expand)

c) Search Engine Optimization - you want people to find your site, you want to know if they came into your site and purchased something. Advertising costs - how much do you want to spend?

d) You will want to be able to adjust your database if you make a change to your product and reflect current stock automatically as items are sold.

e) Email via your web address: owner@mysite.com

Yes, there are ways around the database and dynamic driven content (which means you%26#039;d need to know how to program) - but that means more work on you just to keep your website up and running.

I honestly think you are going to find out that maintaining a website for a business is a lot more work than you thought. Having a content management system integrated into your website is also a plus.

This is a lot of work to take on yourself, when you are already trying to run your business.

Other Replys:Hire a webprogrammer. You website will look lame if you do it yourself. You obviouly don%26#039;t have the technology skills necessary to do it well.

Other Replys:Dont listen to those other posts... Thats not right. You can get a subdomain from http://www.freewebservices.net

as far as an editor i recomend www.chami.com there you will find a 100% free x-html editor that is awosome. I have the older version that works well and you can do it your self. Also use www.w3schools.com as a resource, you can self teach your self. ITs really easy once you practice. Also, if you need help there are some companies that will do it for you and not cost very much. * cough *

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me on the e-mail address on my site. Let me know how it goes!

Other Replys:Here is a free hosting and web domain name. It comes with 500Mb of space and the tools to put together a basic web page.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office...

If you can afford $40\mo I would recommend an eBay or Yahoo store.

Other Replys:Well, you could try one of the hosts that offer eShops.

Here%26#039;s one -

http://www.homestead.com/storefront/pack...

They operate on a sort of %26quot;point and click%26quot; customization thing; you build your site from a template.

I%26#039;m sure you could find more companies that offer the same sort of deal with a quick google search.

Other Replys:If you are looking to start a website I would highly encourage you to hire a programmer. However if you insist on building your own I would recommend using Microsoft front page. if you dont already have this you can buy it at microsoft for about $200. a bit much but trust me it is alot cheaper to buy this then to hire a programmer. however you can create webpages completly free using HTML and any text editor. Anyone can learn HTML in little time at all. I would recommend taking a class (if you have the time) at a local community college. When I make webpages I use a free program called %26quot;textpad%26quot; it%26#039;s entirely text based when creating webpages. There are also a number of websites that offer HTML templates where you can buy one and easily edit information to fit your purpose. it is VERY important that the website is appealing. it is a major turn off to a customer if they have a poor website.

Once you have a website and its up and running whats next? if you really want to draw in as many customers as possible, its important to be in the top searches for selected searches such as %26quot;pet beds%26quot; so you need to market the page. this is where things can get complicated, and it%26#039;s best to hire someone or pay for an online service.

blah! so starting a website can be expensive at first but it can pay off in the long run

Other Replys:Use Dreamweaver for building your site and you may download free trial from Adobe site.

I have websites added themselves to my favourites?

On my web browser, under my favourites, I have a whole bunch of websites and folders that I didn%26#039;t add. They repeat themselves and I can%26#039;t delete them! Heres what they are called:

computers, movies, games, web hosting, and casino online. those are the websites. Here are the folders: Cool Stuff, Travel, Shopping Gifts, Internet, Computers, Online Gaming. These are so annoying I%26#039;m too scared to click on the websites, and I can%26#039;t delete them at all. Please tell me how I can get rid of them.

try http://mrwebdomain.com or http://www.mywebdomain.com

they are really good domain sites, also if you need any help with logos, graphics, myspace layouts, forms, html, or want a whole website, check out http://hobographics.com - they are great and will work directly with you the whole time untill you are 100% satisfied and they have very good prices too.

How to get an existing domain which is not active in real ?

You do need to pay for the domain name, that involves registering the name, and you can then host it anywhere, the host servers will assist you in setting up your name on their servers but it is a pay for process

Other Replys:plain and simple (i have my own sight and know) that someone else has already bought and owns the rights to that sight.

try this

xyz123.org

the best sight I know out that that can help you is go to (I DON%26#039;T work for YAHOO) Yahoo, and find web hosting and then type in the sight you want and it will to say it is not avaiable but will give you many other options like .org to choose from, also www.microsoft.com offers the same service.

If it is not avaiable it will not be any other place you try unless you try .org or something else. When I bought the rights to my sight I own it for 10 years, most offer only terms like this for that long or longer.

How should I charge for yearly website maintenance ?

I%26#039;m a freelance web designer, and I want to know how to charge for updating my clients websites. Now I offer them free maintenance for 1 year. But I%26#039;m planning to charge them for the following year after that. So should they pay monthly or yearly ? e.g. $90 per month. Or is that too low ? Now my clients are only paying for web hosting. Need to charge maintenance them to sustain my business. I would like to offer them as a service for free but its just going to burden me.

How should I charge for yearly website maintenance ?

Charge 50/hour

$20/hr is fine. That%26#039;s what I usually charge for mine.

How do i find domain registrant?

Web domain has expired. I thought I had transferred my domain several years ago to my web hosting company. I guess 鑴?didn%26#039;t. My domain just expired (I didn%26#039;t receive any warnings) and I don%26#039;t know who to contact to renew it with?

How do i find domain registrant?

http://www.whois.net %26lt;--

Enter the domain in the first section %26quot; WHOIS Lookup%26quot;

If your domain has expired, you can renew with any registrar on the net, unless someone else has taken the domain name already.

.

How do i find domain registrant?

I personally like %26#039;Domain Dossier%26#039;. http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.a...

When you put in the domain or IP address, make sure you check off everything. It will show you good intel on the registrant.

Other Replys:If it%26#039;s already expired I can pretty much guaruntee that you lost it. They usually go up for auction when they expire and if not then it%26#039;s on an expired list that people scour over. You can try to renew it at http://www.doggydomains.com or you might have to just get a new one.

What do you think of my website www.jamiesoon.com ? Anything I should improve to get more customers?

I know it doesn%26#039;t look really professional but I%26#039;m try to make it more personal and show my personality. I%26#039;m just wondering whether I should stick to this concept or make my site more professional looking like other web design or web hosting sites. Or just be confortable with style and attract customers that like my style ? Anything you think I should improve ?

What do you think of my website www.jamiesoon.com ? Anything I should improve to get more customers?

Jamieson:

Very artistic.

Their is a thin line between a professional looking website and an artistic one that wraps around your personality.

By professional I mean the basic white background and the boxy features.

I like your website for one basic reason: %26quot;It%26#039;s different%26quot; and it is crafted %26quot;passionately%26quot;. That alone is enough to draw quite a chunk of visitors.

Bear in mind that some will still be repulsed for one reason or another. Fortunately we are talking about a pool of nearly one billion potential visitors.

I wouldn%26#039;t be worried about about it after all thoroughly ugly websites like http://www.craigslist.com/ are doing so well.

I checked your Search Engine stats and I have a feeling your website is new.

If that%26#039;s the case, just market it to the search engines relentlessly. You will eventually get there.

Good work!

ur concept is fantastic. its different from many other websites. just cahnge the look and fell thats it....its cool

just forgot to wish u gud luck with ur business

gud luck

Other Replys:I%26#039;m adding a link to your site from my giftideas page with the next update. And that%26#039;s what you really need to do in the future: get listed in search engines and partner up with sites. Nice page!

If there are multiple hits from the same IP address, are those all the same person?

I am new to web-hosting and have a neat web analyzer tool. However, I am confused as to why there are multiple %26quot;visitors%26quot; listed from the same IP address. I thought that was a unique indentifier. Are they the same visitors looking at the site more than once?

If there are multiple hits from the same IP address, are those all the same person?

Usally it means it%26#039;s the same person, but sometimes a network has a router witch converts it all to the same IP address. So it may be the same visitor or different people on the same network.

If there are multiple hits from the same IP address, are those all the same person?

No two IP adresses are alike. If you see more than one hit from the same IP adress then it is the same person.

Other Replys:the IP you see may be a single user or a gateway from a corporate site. if its the latter, then you may have many people accessing your site from that network gateway

Other Replys:It could be from a network of users that have the same IP address, like a business with many computers and only one internet connection.

Other Replys:Multiple people behind a router using the same wireless network will show up as a single IP address.

Other Replys:i AGREE with redsoxer. An IP Address can represent a single computer, gateway, router, access point, proxy server and probably more.

Other Replys:No, it can be many person in a same company that use a same gateway

Other Replys:Yes. But, no sane person sends multiple %26#039;hits%26#039;, so it is a bad vibe that is %26#039;hammering%26#039; you!!! Perhaps, karma?

Behind a hardware firewall ( http://ipcop.org ) and running http://pclinuxos.com is a fairly secure place to be... plus, there are 5480 games, programs, applications, suites...
